Garage Doors in RosemountThe garage
is part of the house.

In most homes in Rosemount the door between the garage and the kitchen is the least guarded one, so the garage door itself matters for security. We make sure it closes and locks fully, replace worn emergency-release cords, add a manual lock where wanted, and clear old codes from the opener.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 49 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 49% of homes in Kitchener were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.A neighbourhood with homes from several decades means a technician meets both generations of garage door in a single day: extension-spring wood doors next to steel sectionals on torsion hardware. The van carries parts for both so either kind of door is repaired on the first visit.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 48% of homes in Kitchener (2021 Census).Mixed housing brings mixed garage use: workshops and storage in the detached homes, everyday parking and a tight squeeze in the attached ones. Sealed rollers and protected sensors suit the busy workshop door; a quiet opener and a well-balanced door suit the townhouse.

You pulled the red cord to lift the door by hand during a power cut and it felt like lifting a car. The opener has been doing all the work and grumbling about it, and you are not sure how long that can go on.

The spring system is matched to the door's weight, and getting that match right is what makes a door balanced. These services replace worn springs and cables and set the tension correctly.

  1. Part 1The panels

    Garage Door Panel Replacement

You misjudged the last metre of the driveway and felt the bumper meet the door. The bottom section now carries a crease across most of its width.

  2. Part 2The springs

    Torsion Spring Replacement

The door starts to rise, gets about the height of your knee, then shudders and reverses. The opener sounds strained, and the top section flexes as the trolley pulls on it, because the motor is doing work the spring used to do.

  3. Part 3The cables

    Garage Door Cable Replacement

After years of slushy winters the cables look thinner near the bottom brackets, with rust streaks running down the door where they attach. The door still works, but the frayed wires catch your glove when you brush past.

  4. Part 4Tracks and rollers

    Garage Door Roller Replacement

Halfway up, the door hesitates and the opener strains before it carries on. Pulled by hand with the opener released, you feel the same catch at the same height, as if a wheel is dragging instead of turning.

  5. Part 5The opener

Garage Door Opener Diagnosis and Repair

You press the remote from the driveway and hear the motor hum overhead, a steady drone with no movement behind it. The door stays shut.

Ask us anything

How long does a tune-up take?

For a single or double residential door with an opener, allow roughly an hour to two hours on site. The inspection and the two observed cycles take a fixed amount of time; the rest depends on how many fasteners have loosened, whether the sensors need realigning and whether you approve a small part replacement, such as a worn roller, during the same visit. Spring or cable work, if found necessary, is scheduled as its own job.

What is a strut, and does a new section need one?

A strut is a horizontal steel stiffener fastened across the inside of a section to keep it from bowing. Wide doors, top sections where the opener arm pulls, and bottom sections that take knocks are the usual places for them. If your damaged section had a strut, the new one gets a straight strut refitted or replaced. If a top section bowed because it never had one, adding a strut is part of putting it right.

Should the track be lubricated too?

No. The track is meant to be clean and dry so the wheels roll rather than slide. Grease or spray in the raceway collects dust, sand and, in winter, salt and slush, forming a paste that grinds the wheels and can let a roller skid instead of turn. The technician cleans the track and leaves it dry; at home, a wipe with a cloth and an occasional sweep of the bottom few inches is all the track wants.

The wood behind the track is rotten. Can the track still be fixed?

Yes, and the wood is part of the job. Screws will not hold in soft timber, so the technician cuts back to solid wood and sisters a new length of jamb alongside or replaces the lower section, fastening it through to the framing. The brackets are then lag-screwed into the fresh wood and the track set to the door. In older garages this repair is common, and it is what makes the alignment last.
